Palm Beach fabulousness comes to Farmington, CT

Greetings, LucyUncorked friends!

My good friend and fabulous design genius, Heather Grahling,
owner of Vivid Hue Home in Farmington, CT.
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with the fabulous Heather Grahling, the design doyenne behind the wildly popular design blog, Vivid Hue Home.  It's an exciting time for her, as she just recently realized her life long dream of opening a brick and mortar boutique in the bucolic and historic Farmington, CT.  I've always admired her style, commitment to color and light, and eye for unique pairings.  I'm oversimplifying here, but she's got a great Palm Beach/Hollywood Regency vibe going on.  Heather has helped me transform my home office and master bedroom, and has urged me to take design risks that I never would have thought of on my own.
So back to the shop--Vivid Hue Home is the ultimate gift destination.  There is something for everyone.  Birthdays, hostess gifts, housewarming, thank you, Father's Day---you name it.  This shop is filled with amazing, unique finds for everyone on your list.
Erin Flett textiles and Matt Ellison Gurgle Pots

Some of my faves include textiles and gifts from Erin Flett.  Erin works out of Portland, Maine and her pillows, placements, and napkins have been featured on One Kings Lane and Serena & Lilly.  I also love the Danish Melamine line from Rice DK---super bright, fun, colorful patterns in unbreakable melamine. Great for the little ones.
Probably my favorite purchase thus far has been a gurgle pot from Seattle artist Matt Ellison. Designed with graceful, clean lines and crafted of durable stoneware, these colorful pitchers/pots are perfect for drinks, flowers, decoration, and a million other uses.  I love that it actually makes a "gurgling" sound when you pour from it.  Comes in an array of fun colors
perfect for any decor style.

Vivid Hue Home also carries custom, one of kind furniture, like these fabulous custom chairs from Palm Beach.  Additionally, Vivid Hue Home is the first retailer in Connecticut to carry Taylor Burke Home, a boutique furniture company that proudly designs and manufactures their upholstery and accent pieces in the United States.  Taylor Burke is focused on producing high quality furniture made with sustainable practices.
I am crushing on these vintage, custom chairs from Palm Beach.

I asked Heather some questions to give us a better glimpse in to the genius design mind behind Vivid Hue Home.  When asked who her design inspiration is, her first answer was Carleton Varney.  She loves his Palm Beach style, and the rejuvenation of The Colony Hotel.  She loves how his style mixes color and patterns with a refined style.

Heather is married and a busy mom of two; an eight year old son, and a six year old daughter.  When she has some free time, she likes to get away with the family to Kennebunkport, Maine.  The Grahling family has been spending time there every summer for the past eight years and it's become a summer tradition.  They rent the same house every summer and now know the neighbors. Heather loves how it really feels like a "Home away from Home" when they are there.  Good news for Mainers and/or vacationers--Heather toys with opening a future Vivid Hue Home shop up in Kennebunkport.  Of course, LucyUncorked would have to make a trip up and maybe spend a few days interviewing Heather! Heather and I have our New York City experience in common.  We both lived there in our twenties and share stories of our fun memories of living in the city.  Heather is still a huge New York City fan and loves the energy of the city.  She and I both agree that New York City really becomes like a small town when you live there.  You establish routines, your favorite dining spots, your local coffee place, etc.

Three of her favorite things about New York City:
  • New Yorkers really are the friendliest people.
  • The  energy of the city
  • Flea markets, antique stores and shopping
As a former New York City dog owner,
I had to snatch this book up for my own house!

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Heather is also one of my happy Beautycounter customers.  I just had to learn what her favorite products are.  She swears by the Hydrate Body Lotion and the Countertime Nourishing Cleansing Balm.  Two winners, for sure!

Here are a few more snaps from my visits to Vivid Hue Home.  If you are in the Farmington, CT area, you should definitely pay Heather a visit.  Her store is fabulous and she is always a joy to spend time with.  Vivid Hue Home is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10am-6pm, and Saturdays from 11am-4pm.  She is available on Sundays and Mondays by appointment.  Vivid Hue Home is located at 775 Farmington Avenue (Route 4) in historic downtown Farmington, CT.  If you pay Heather a visit, let her know that I sent you!
Welcome to Vivid Hue Home!
